The Pros and Cons of Your Neighborhood Wine Shop

Subway: 23rd St. (C,E)/18th St. (1)

Pros: A small and neatly organized shop with a limited but well selected offering focused on organic, biodynamic, and so-called natural wines. Many of the major wine producing countries are represented though the selection leans heavily toward France, Spain, Italy, and California. There are plenty of good choices for under $20 a bottle and although the shop is small there is still a good amount of shelf space dedicated to half bottles and magnums; there is also a small assortment of high-quality spirits. The wide aisles make it easy to move around and the high ceiling makes the space feel airy. The staff is friendly and eager to help. There are plenty of in-store tastings, which are posted on their website, and the shop is dog friendly, even doling out biscuits to its four-legged patrons. There is a 10% case discount and free delivery to Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Bronx addresses on orders over $100.

Cons: Unfortunately, there are not many wines available for under $10 a bottle. Selections from regions outside of France, Spain, Italy, and California are a little sparse. Parking in this area can be moderately difficult and the closest subway stop is five blocks away.
